the iPhone app

yumu on your iPhone.yumuyumuyumuyumu onononon youryouryouryour iPhone.iPhone.iPhone.iPhone.

it isn’t on the App Store, so you install it yourself with a free tool and your Apple ID. about ten minutes the first time, then a tap or a plug-in once a week.

version 1.0.2

download the .ipa

yen.bio-1.0.2.ipa, 2.6 MB. all downloads

before you start

  • an iPhone or iPad

iOS 15 or later, with a passcode set.

  • an Apple ID

the free one you already have works. a paid developer account is optional.

  • a computer

a Mac or Windows PC for the first install (for SideStore, only that once).

  • a cable

the one you charge with, for the first install. Wi-Fi works after that.

with a free Apple ID, Apple lets an installed app run for 7 days before it has to be re-signed, and you can have 3 of these apps at once. re-signing takes a moment and keeps everything: you stay signed in.

pick a way

all of these are free, widely used tools that sign the app with your own Apple ID. not sure? use Sideloadly.

a paid Apple developer accountif you already pay for one ($99 a year): the app lasts a year, and there’s no 3-app limit.once a year, to re-sign.once a year.

Sideloadly

sideloadly.io

the quickest. one window on your computer, one cable, done.

  1. download Sideloadly from sideloadly.io and open it. on Windows, first install iTunes and iCloud from apple.com (not the Microsoft Store versions).
  2. download the yumu .ipa (button at the top of this page) on the same computer.
  3. plug your iPhone in with a cable, unlock it, and tap trust this computer if it asks.
  4. drag the .ipa into Sideloadly, type your Apple ID email, and press start. sign in with your Apple ID password (and the code Apple texts you) when it asks.
  5. wait for done. then do the first-time steps below on your iPhone, and open yumu.

every 7 days: plug in and press start again, or turn on auto-refresh and keep the computer on the same Wi-Fi.

AltStore Classic

altstore.io

an app store on your phone that re-signs yumu by itself in the background.

  1. download AltServer from altstore.io and open it (it lives in your menu bar or tray). on Windows, install iTunes and iCloud from apple.com first.
  2. plug your iPhone in, unlock it, and trust the computer. from the AltServer icon choose install AltStore, pick your iPhone, and sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. do the first-time steps below so AltStore can open.
  4. on your iPhone, open this page in Safari and download the .ipa (it lands in Files, in Downloads).
  5. open AltStore, go to my apps, tap +, and choose the yumu .ipa. it signs and installs it.

automatic while AltServer is running on the same Wi-Fi; or open AltStore and tap refresh all.

AltStore itself counts as one of the 3 apps a free Apple ID allows.

SideStore

sidestore.io

no computer after the first setup: it re-signs apps on the phone itself.

  1. on your iPhone, install LocalDevVPN from the App Store and connect it (allow the VPN when it asks).
  2. on your computer, install iloader from sidestore.io (on Windows, iTunes too). plug your iPhone in, trust the computer, sign in with your Apple ID, and install SideStore.
  3. do the first-time steps below, then open SideStore and sign in with the same Apple ID.
  4. download the .ipa from this page in Safari. with LocalDevVPN connected and on Wi-Fi, tap + in SideStore and choose it.

open SideStore on Wi-Fi with LocalDevVPN connected and tap refresh, at least every 7 days.

after an iOS update or a reset, SideStore may need setting up with the computer again. it counts as one of your 3 apps too.

a paid Apple developer account

developer.apple.com

if you already pay for one ($99 a year): the app lasts a year, and there’s no 3-app limit.

  1. follow the Sideloadly steps above, signing in with the Apple ID that has the developer account.
  2. that’s it: the signature lasts a year instead of 7 days.

once a year.

first time on this iPhone

whichever way you used, do these once after the first install.

  1. 1

    turn on developer mode

Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode (near the bottom; it appears after your first install). switch it on, let the iPhone restart, then tap turn on.

  2. 2

    trust your Apple ID

Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → the profile with your Apple ID → trust. until you do, the app says “untrusted developer” and won’t open.

  3. 3

say yes once in the app

open yumu and allow the microphone when you first join a call, and notifications if you want them.

staying safe

  • get the .ipa only from yumu (this page or the download page), and the tools only from their own sites: sideloadly.io, altstore.io, sidestore.io.
  • skip “free signing” websites, paid certificate services and anything that installs through a profile in Safari. they sign apps with someone else’s certificate, which Apple revokes often, and you can’t know what they changed.
  • Sideloadly, AltStore and SideStore send your Apple ID password to Apple to make your signing certificate. if you’d rather not, make a spare Apple ID for sideloading: it works just as well.
  • yumu never asks for your Apple ID. the app signs in with your yumu account, like the website.

questions

if something’s off

the usual hiccups, and how to get past them.

  • its 7 days are up. re-sign it the way you installed it (press start in Sideloadly again, or refresh in AltStore or SideStore). you stay signed in to yumu, and nothing is lost.

  • trust your Apple ID once: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → your Apple ID → trust.

  • it only appears after something has been sideloaded. install once (it will fail to open), then look again under Settings → Privacy & Security.

  • a free Apple ID can have 3 sideloaded apps at once (AltStore and SideStore count as one). remove one you don’t use, or use a different Apple ID.

  • almost never. the app loads yumu live, so it gets every new feature the moment the site does. only install a new .ipa when this page shows a new version number.

  • apps signed with a free Apple ID can’t get Apple’s push notifications. you get them while the app is open or playing in the background. for notifications when it’s closed, add yumu to your Home Screen from Safari too, and turn them on there.

  • not for this one: AltStore PAL only installs apps whose developers have published them through Apple’s EU process. use AltStore Classic, SideStore or Sideloadly instead.

  • no. Safari → share → add to Home Screen gives you yumu as a home-screen app with push notifications, with nothing to re-sign. the app adds calls and music that keep going in the background, and a cleaner keyboard.

on Android? that one’s a single download.
