    Murder at the manor, bigger

    • Four modes: classic, chaos, detective mode and quick. Whoever starts it picks.
    • New roles: the godfather (looks innocent), the framer, the silencer, the bodyguard, the vigilante, the mayor (two votes), the jester (wins if you vote them out) and the survivor. In chaos mode, two people fall in love, and if one dies so does the other.
    • Clues: everyone has two traits, and each morning a clue points at one of the killer’s. They’re pinned to an evidence board, with who matches.
    • Everyone’s picture is on the board, and the dead can still talk, greyed out with a cross on their picture and (dead) by their name.
    • Games now move down the chat as they go on, so they stay in view while everyone talks.
  2. better

    Tag people in notes

    • Type @ in your note to tag someone. They get a notification if they can see your note, and tapping the tag opens their profile.
    • Notes look cleaner: thought bubbles that line up, and a tidier card when you open one.
    • The ring around someone’s picture in notes turns pink when they have a story up.
  3. new

    momo, the chat bot

    • Type / in any chat to talk to momo. /help shows everything.
    • Games right in the chat: tic-tac-toe, connect four, rock paper scissors, trivia, hangman, typerace, draw and guess and a murder mystery where the dead can’t talk.
    • Crash is a party now: when someone starts a round, everyone in the chat has ten seconds to hop on with their own bet, then each of you cashes out on your own.
    • Coins: collect /daily, send them with /pay, see /rich, and try your luck with coinflip, dice, limbo, plinko, crash, mines and blackjack. Save up enough and /redeem them for premium.
    • Group owners and admins can /mute people for a while, as well as /kick and /ban.
    • /fm brings your last.fm into the chat: what you’re playing, your tops and charts, and who knows an artist best (the top listener wears the crown).
  4. new

    Delete a group

    • If you own a group, you can delete it from its settings. It goes for everyone, with all its messages, so we ask twice.
  5. new

    Tag people in stories

    • Tap @ while making a story to tag up to five people. Their @ sits on the story like a sticker: move it, turn it, make it bigger.
    • Anyone watching can tap the tag to open that person’s profile, and the people you tag get a notification.

    One follow button

    • On feed profiles the follow button now says where you stand: Follow, Follow back (they follow you), Following, or Friends (you follow each other). The separate friends badge is gone.
  2. fixed

    Smoother chats in the app

    • Typing on a story keeps the cursor right on your words, and the template gallery no longer crashes the app on phones.
    • Stories now open over everything, so the top bar no longer covers who posted them.
    • Opening the keyboard in a chat no longer makes the screen jump up and slowly slide back down.
    • The chats screen runs all the way up under the clock and battery, like a normal app. If you still see a black bar at the top, remove the app from your Home Screen and add it again.
  3. new

    Stickers on the feed

    • Post or reply with one of momo’s stickers. Tap the sticker button next to the emoji one when you write a post.
    • A sticker post shows big in the feed and on the post page, and reads as “sticker: …” in quotes, reply previews and notifications.
  4. better

    A new look

    • A cozier yen.bio: a plum room on a rainy night with a pink lamp, momo by the window, and the colours of our blossom everywhere.
    • A new home page. Try a page out before you sign up, see real pages drifting by, and press play on the record player by the window.
    • The room on the home page has more going on: fairy lights to recolour, a candle to blow out, a pinboard, a window you can draw on, and momo to poke.
    • Shop, market and help have the new look too, and they’re back in the top bar. Missing pages, the offline screen and the app’s opening screen now have momo. So do the loading screens, the dashboard home and anything that goes wrong.
    • Every section of the home page is decorated now: bunting and fairy lights, a blossom branch, mugs, plants, washi tape on the cards, and momo peeking over the edge.
    • Your dashboard and chats have a new default theme, blossom. Your old theme is still there if you picked one.
  5. new

    Stories (beta)

    • Stories are in beta: they’re new, so tell us in the Discord if anything acts up.
    • Post a story from the top of your feed: a photo, a few words on a colour, or a video with Premium. It disappears after a day.
    • Stories from people you follow sit in a ring at the top of the feed. New ones glow; tap to watch, tap the sides to skip, hold to pause.
    • Send an emoji back to someone’s story, and see who watched yours (and what they sent).
    • Make a story friends only, so just the people you follow back can see it.
    • Dress your story up: write on it, add momo and emoji stickers, and put a song on it (search any song; it plays while people watch). Drag things around, pinch to resize and turn, drop on the bin to remove.
  6. new

    Say hi to momo

    • yen.bio has a mascot: momo, a little sticker creature with sakura-petal ears. Tap them for a hop.
    • momo sits on the name box on the home page and reacts while you pick a name: hearts when it’s free, a sad face when it’s taken.
    • Empty feeds, empty chats and quiet notifications now have momo keeping you company, and momo is the new tab icon.
    • The chat stickers are now momo: waving hi, laughing, in love, sleepy, mad and more, some with a word on them. Stickers you already sent still show.
  7. better

    A more polished feed

    • Posts read better: bigger, airier text, actions spread evenly across the post, and photos in softer frames with a little depth.
    • Replies under a post now hang from a thread line, people to follow get proper profile cards, and trending tags are a ranked list (on phones too, right in the feed).
    • Quoted posts show who wrote them, with their picture.
  8. better

    A roomier feed on phones

    • On phones the feed now runs edge to edge, search tucks into a button next to the title, and sorting sits with the trending tags, so posts start right at the top.
  9. better

    Cleaner chats

    • The chat list is tidier: the time and a pink unread count sit on the right, group pictures are rounded squares, and unread chats stand out.
    • Messages are slimmer: the time tucks into the corner of the bubble, and bubbles have a little tail.
    • On your phone, chats are their own screen like a messaging app: no extra top bar (the menu is in the chats header), compact notes, and search behind a button.
  10. better

    A cozier front page

    • The yen.bio front page got cozy: warm lamp light, drifting specks and twinkling fairy lights, plus the feed, chats, group chats and the new app on real-looking iPhones. The record on the desk plays a new song: headache by jaydes.
  11. better

    A livelier feed

    • Liking, reposting and saving a post now bursts a little ring of sparks around the button.
    • Poll results sweep in, chosen tags pop, avatars tilt hello, people to follow lift as you hover, and photos lean in a little.
  12. fixed

Smooth live preview with cursor effects

    • Moving your mouse over the editor’s live preview no longer lags when your page has a cursor effect or an animated background.
  13. better

A fresh look for the shop and market

    • The dashboard’s shop and market now match the rest of the dashboard: sticker-style cards and icons, clear status tags on your purchases and sales, $ price boxes, and layouts that fit properly on phones.
  14. new

    Icon-only crests

    • Group owners can now make a crest that’s just an icon, no tag: tick “just the icon” in the group’s settings and pick an icon (or use the group picture).
  15. fixed

    Post button on phones

    • The feed’s post button no longer slides off the edge on phones. Who can reply is now a small chip that shows its setting when there’s room.
  16. better

    The app wears yen.bio’s colours

    • The yen.bio app now runs right up under your phone’s status bar in its own deep plum colour instead of plain black, and on Android the bar follows your dashboard theme.
  17. better

    Notifications show the message

    • Message notifications on your phone and computer now show what was actually said (or that it’s a photo, voice message or sticker), not just “sent you a message”.
  18. better

The app feels like an app

    • In the yen.bio app on your phone, screens now slide in as you move around (and back the other way when you go back), and buttons give a little press when you tap them.
    • Pull down at the top of a page to refresh, and the menu slides in and can be swiped away.
    • Someone’s page, a post or a missing page now has a back button in the app, so you’re never stuck.
  19. fixed

No more “waiting for someone to unlock it”

    • Chats that said they were waiting for someone to unlock them for you now open by themselves within a few seconds, without anyone else needing to be online.
  20. new

    Forward messages

    • Send any message on to up to 5 other chats: hover it and pick ⋯ → forward, or hold it on your phone.
    • Photos and voice messages come along too, and forwarded messages get a small “forwarded” label.
  21. better

    Chats fit your phone

    • On phones, Messages now fills the whole screen edge to edge, and the message box always sits at the bottom, right above the keyboard when it’s open.
    • More room for chat names in the header, and your keyboard’s return key now says Send.
  22. fixed

Tiny text in the iPhone app

    • If yen.bio looks tiny on your iPhone, it now tells you why and how to fix it: Safari’s page zoom turned down for the site (aA menu), or desktop websites switched on.
  23. better

Chat reports get a proper look

    • When you report a message, the team can now open that chat to see what was actually said, including photos and voice messages, instead of relying only on what the report included.
    • Only owners and developers can do this, only from a report, and every time it happens it is recorded.
  24. better

    Always the newest yen.bio

    • The app (and any yen.bio tab you leave open) now picks up updates by itself: it refreshes quietly while you’re away or as you come back, never while you’re typing.
  25. better

    No more chat passphrases

    • Your chats now unlock by themselves on every phone and computer you sign in on. No passphrase to choose, type or forget.
    • Already had a passphrase? You never need it again, even if you forgot it. On a new device your chats get a fresh key, and older messages come back as the people in each chat open Messages.
    • How this changes privacy: messages are still stored encrypted, but yen.bio now keeps a copy of your chat key so it can unlock chats for you. That means chats are no longer end-to-end encrypted, and yen.bio could read them if it needed to.
    • Link previews are back in all chats.
