Dashboard themes

Make your own dashboard theme (colours, wallpaper, a dock or a desktop of apps), wear one from the gallery, or list yours for free or for a price.

Where: Dashboard → Themes · Settings → Appearance

A dashboard theme changes the place you use yumu from, not your public page. Only you see the theme you wear. Open Themes from the sidebar (or Settings → Appearance → open themes) to make one, try one on, or wear one from the gallery.

  1. 1Press make a theme. The studio opens and the dashboard around you becomes the preview: every change shows as you make it.
  2. 2Pick a layout (sidebar, dock or desktop), your colours, a wallpaper and the type.
  3. 3Optional: rename tabs and pick their icons, fill the slots, add CSS extras.
  4. 4Got a theme file (a .json someone shared)? Press open a theme file in the studio and it fills everything in.
  5. 5Press save and wear. To share it, press list: link only, or in the gallery, free or with a price.

Layouts (chrome)

LayoutWhat you getOn a phone
SidebarThe usual list down the side, in your colours. Side: left or right. The usual menu.
FloatingThe same sidebar, lifted off the edge as a glassy card over your wallpaper. Side: left or right. The usual menu.
Icon railA slim strip of app tiles, grouped, with names on hover. Search and settings at the foot. Side: left or right. The usual menu.
Top barA menu bar across the top: one menu per group (your people, your page, play, the store, your account), each opening its apps in a grid. The usual menu.
DockA dock of app tiles. Edge: bottom, left or right. Icons: a folder per group (each opens its apps in a grid) or every tab. Size: small, medium, large. Names: on hover or always. The usual menu.
DesktopEvery tab is an app icon on your wallpaper; the tab you open is a window. Icons: small, medium, large, in one to three columns. Title bar: soft (with window dots), classic (a bar in your accent) or plain. Taskbar: bottom or top, with search, settings, the listen chip and a clock. The usual menu, so every tab stays easy to tap.

Colours and other settings

accent

any colour

Buttons, the active tab, links, and the listen bar’s play button. Becomes --dash-accent.

background, sidebar and bars, panels

any colour

--dash-bg, --dash-side, --dash-panel: the page, the chrome, every card, and the listen bar. On a desktop theme you can minimize Listen into the taskbar next to the clock; style that chip with .yen-listen-tray and the floating bar with .yen-listen-mini.

text, quiet text

any colour

--dash-ink and --dash-muted. If either is too faint on your background or panels, a readable colour is used instead (text needs 7:1 contrast, quiet text 4.5:1).

lines

any colour

--dash-hairline, for borders you add yourself (the desktop window uses it too).

corners

0–32px

Default: 22px

--dash-radius, the roundness of panels and the desktop window.

wallpaper

the café, a gradient, or a picture (https)

With brightness (30–130%) and blur (0–30px). It replaces the café scene behind the dashboard.

type

Geist, Yen Display, Geist Mono, Caveat

Default: Geist

The face for the whole dashboard. Only these four: they’re already loaded, so nothing reaches out to another site.

tab names and icons

an icon from yumu’s set, a name up to 18 characters

Shown in the dock and on the desktop, each on a tile coloured by its group (your people, your page, play, the store, your account). Only the dashboard’s own tabs can be renamed. In the theme file an icon is its name, like "house" or "floppy".

window title, caption

up to 400 characters

Small bits of HTML yumu places for you: the desktop window’s title bar, and a caption on the wallpaper. Bold, italic, underline, small, mark, span, code and line breaks only.

clock

on or off

Default: on

A clock at the end of the desktop taskbar.

panels

solid, glass, outline, paper

Default: solid

How every card is drawn: filled, see-through and blurred, just a line, or with a faint paper texture.

shadows

none, soft, deep

Default: soft

How much the cards lift off the page.

app icons

coloured tiles, glass, outline, just the icon

Default: coloured tiles

How tabs are drawn in the rail, top bar menus, dock and desktop.

group colours

five colours

The tile colour for each group: your people, your page, play, the store, your account.

pattern

none, dots, grid, stripes, grain, stars; strength 0–60%

Default: none

A pattern laid over your wallpaper, drawn in your text colour. Made of gradients, so nothing loads from anywhere.

CSS extras

Up to 8,000 characters of CSS, for the details the settings don’t cover. It goes through the same cleaner as page CSS and is scoped to the dashboard, so .bg-dash-panel { … } means panels in your dashboard and nothing else.

  • No @import, and links only to https:// pictures or data:image.
  • !important is removed, z-index is capped at 40, and anything position: fixed must also be pointer-events: none (decoration, not a fake button).
  • Rules for :root, html or body are dropped: a theme styles the dashboard, not the sign-in, your public page, or the rest of the site.
  • yumu’s own search, settings, your account menu and sign-out, the phone header, the dock’s and taskbar’s buttons, and call controls always keep their own size, place and visibility, whatever the CSS says.
  • No JavaScript, anywhere. Themes are data: colours, a picture, some text, some CSS.

If something doesn’t apply

A setting that isn’t valid falls back to its default, and a declaration the cleaner removes simply doesn’t happen. The rest of your theme still applies.

Worked example: Desk

The official Desk theme in the gallery is a desktop-of-apps theme made only with the settings above, no CSS: try it on, then press make a theme to build your own the same way.

Sharing and selling

  • Link only: anyone with the link can try it on and wear it.
  • In the gallery: listed for everyone under Themes, free or with a price. Prices work like paid templates: the buyer pays you directly in crypto, and you need a payout wallet in Settings first.
  • Wearing a theme gives you your own copy: it keeps working if the author edits, unlists or deletes it (wear it again to get their latest).
  • Themes can be reported. Three reports hide one until staff look at it.
How do I go back to a normal colour?

Pick any colour in Settings → Appearance, or press take my theme off under Themes.

Do other people see my dashboard theme?

No. It’s your dashboard. Your public page has its own look in Customize.
